South Boston, Massachusetts, Man Gets Creative With Ice Scraping

It's truly just stereotypical weather in New England, so it's not that big of a deal. Drastic weather changes are just another day that ends in "y" when you live here, no matter the season.

But when the drastic changes can happen in such quick succession, that's when it seems like it's a bit mind-blowing, and that's happened a bit during Winter 2022 and Winter 2023.

In both years, the beginning of the winter seasons have been quiet, with little to no snow in November and December of both 2022 and 2023, only for the beginning of the year (both 2023 and 2024) bringing multiple storms back-to-back-to-back.

Creative Snow Removal

Since we're so used to dealing with the typical random New England weather, where we can go from 60-degree weather in winter one day to 6 inches of snow or more the next, we get a bit creative sometimes with snow removal in a pinch.

For instance, video captured in Portland, Maine, shows someone getting rid of rooftop snow using a leaf blower instead of shoveling (which, obviously will only work with the light, fluffy-type of snow, as opposed to the wet and heavy, but still a genius idea.)

New England Ice

It's not just snow issues that New Englanders deal with, there's also the ice factor. Whether that's rain following snowfall and creating skating rinks everywhere, the sun and warmer temps during the day causing melting and then freezing when temps drop later on, or something somewhere in between -- ice usually always becomes an issue with or following a fresh snowfall.

And sometimes, we have to get creative with ice removal, too.

For whatever reason -- whether we're just not prepared for the ice, our ice scraper breaks, we let someone borrow a scraper and never got it back -- sometimes, we're just unequipped to deal with it.

So, desperate times call for desperate measures, like happened to this man in South Boston, Massachusetts, who resorted to using a tennis racket to scrape the ice off the windows of his car.
