What a great family, I thought, as the Bessey's came into the studio with an old friend and pediatrician to my children when they were growing up, Dr. Kieran Kamerer. This family has been through a lot lately, having recently lost their 8-month-old little boy, Ezra...

Though this little guy never got to say the words "mommy" or "daddy" or even walk across a room and jump in his parents lap, it was clear to see that they were blessed just to have his big, beautiful eyes and precious smile, if only for a short while.

Ezra had what is called "Spinal Muscular Atrophy," a not-so-rare disease that can affect as many as one in 40 families.

On Sunday, there is going to be an event at Hall Dale High School in Farmingdale to bring awareness to the disease and raise money to cure it. Emily and Ethan want to help prevent what happened to their family from happening to others.

Doors will open at Noon for a silent auction, bake sale, face painting and other kid friendly activities. At 1, the performances begin. There will be a children's magician, children's musician and a circus acrobat/performer who is formerly from the Ringling Brothers' Circus.

The event is free but donations will be accepted. The family asks you to bring a heart shaped rock in memory of Ezra.
