Saylorink Tattoo Raises Money for Maine Child’s Life-Saving Surgery
Saylorlink Tattoo is a well-known and popular establishment in Augusta, and Dustin Tribou is the owner. Dustin forged a friendship with Erika Sawtelle, whose son, Connor, grapples with a life-altering illness.
Connor, 11 years old, suffers from a rare condition called Chiari malformation, necessitating a groundbreaking spinal surgery, according to WABI.
The procedure in New York that Connor needs is unprecedented for a child. Not to mention, the hurdles of costs is huge.
Get this, MaineCare isn't accepted, leaving the entire Sawtelle family to cover a staggering $700,000.
Dustin was not going to accept that as this family's reality.
Dustin created a fundraiser at the tattoo parlor. Erika welcomed the idea, and soon, the community rallied behind Connor's cause!
Over 100 people turned up, eager to support young Connor.
They were offering tattoos for a discounted price of $65, and the tattoos to choose from were inked designs like Lego men and Percy Jacksons' trident, all symbols of Connors beloved interests. All proceeds go to the Sawtelle family, of course.
Meanwhile, the cutest thing ever happened. Connor's sister took charge of a lemonade stand. She set it up and added a sweet touch to the event.
Cushnoc Brewing also joined the effort, and generously donated pizzas to feed everyone.
Cash flowed in, and the overwhelming support prolonged the event well past its closing time! According to Facebook, they raised $11,500!
The outpouring of love and support showed the power of community in times of adversity.
If you'd like to join the cause or learn more about Connor's journey, you can visit SawtelleStrong on Facebook.
Each donation, big or small, makes a difference in Connor's life.
