Lightning Strikes Augusta, Maine Hotel During Powerful Summer Storm

Yesterday's thunderstorm in Augusta, Maine, was one that many people won't forget anytime soon. What started as a typical summer storm quickly turned into an intense weather event with booming thunder, frequent lightning, heavy rain, and even hail. The loud cracks of thunder echoed across the area, making it clear this wasn't an ordinary storm.

Lightning Strikes Close to Home

One of the most shocking moments came when lightning struck the Comfort Inn on Civic Center Drive. The Augusta Fire Department quickly responded, and when I drove past the scene, firefighters were using the aerial ladder from a fire truck to spray water onto the roof after the strike. The response highlighted the severity of the storm as crews worked to make sure the building was safe and that no fire had spread.

A Storm to Remember

The hail added another layer of surprise, bouncing off roads, rooftops, and vehicles while the lightning continued flashing across the sky. Although storms are common during the summer, having lightning hit so close to home is a completely different experience. It makes you realize how powerful nature really is and how quickly conditions can become dangerous. Thankfully, the Augusta Fire Department responded quickly and was able to secure the scene. Most importantly, no one was hurt, making the outcome much better than it could have been despite the frightening lightning strike.
