Thornton Academy in Saco, Maine went into a temporary lockdown after reportedly receiving a threatening phone call, according to WGME.

According to WGME, the call was received at around 9:00 am which immediately resulted in quick action from the school administration.

The school got a hold of local law enforcement and put everyone into a lockdown to ensure safety for students and staff.  

Thornton Academy released a short statement on their Facebook Page.

We have not yet received details on the phone call or what was said but as per the post, Saco police responded to the high school and is assessing the situation.

During that time the school was secured. 

The lockdown has been lifted saying, 

"The police determined that the school was safe and the lockdown was lifted at 9:16AM."

All parents and guardians were notified, as per the post.

Lockdowns are necessary when threats are made to schools, even if they are unfounded, it’s always taken very seriously.  

Law enforcement encourages anyone that has information on this to come forward.
