Maine Could Tax Visitors – And Everyone Else
According to WGME, Maine lawmakers are considering two bills that would tax out-of-state visitors.
One bill would raise the tax on a gallon of gasoline to 37 cents between June and November. The rest of the year, the tax would only be 27 cents. The tax is currently 30 cents.
The other bill would allow towns and cities to set their own seasonal tax.
While the bills are aimed reaping additional tax money from tourists, it is important to note that they'll affect everyone who makes purchases in Maine.
