12 Ducklings Rescued From Storm Drain in Lewiston Reunited With Mom
A stressful situation for one very determined mother duck turned into a happy ending Monday morning in Lewiston.
According to Central Maine Medical Center, security staff were alerted after hearing a loud and persistent commotion outside. When they went to check it out, they found a distressed mother duck pacing near a storm drain, clearly trying to get help. From below, they could hear the unmistakable sound of tiny peeps coming from inside.
It did not take long to realize what had happened. A group of ducklings had fallen into the storm drain and were unable to climb back out on their own.
Security quickly teamed up with the Lewiston Water Department to come up with a plan. Crews carefully accessed the drain and began the delicate process of retrieving the trapped ducklings one by one.
In total, 12 fuzzy ducklings were safely lifted out of the drain. Each one appeared to be unharmed after their unexpected fall.
As soon as the rescue was complete, the ducklings were reunited with their very relieved mother. The family quickly moved along together, bringing the situation to a heartwarming close.
Moments like this are not part of the typical morning routine, but for those involved, it was a reminder that sometimes the smallest emergencies can bring out a big response.
