We are blessed in Central Maine to have so many locally owned businesses. From restaurants, art galleries pubs and more, there is not shortage of locally owned places to spend your hard-earned money and support local.

Of course the fact that so many businesses are locally owned makes it that much harder when one has to close its doors for good. Sadly, that's exactly what is happening at one very popular Central Maine business.

According to an article published by the Kennebec Journal, the popular Goldfinch Creamery in Gardiner, Maine has announced its upcoming closure. According to the report, the creamery, known for their ice cream, pastries and tea, is going to be closing for the last time at the end of the week.

Owners of the business say that it is not a lack of business that is causing the closure, instead it's due to ongoing family health issues that have made running the business too much for them right now.

Hope Olivencia and her husband, Joey, who own the business, said in part about the closure,

“It has nothing to do with the business itself. We are struggling with some family health issues. It’s just a conflict of everything at once. I can’t get up at that hour (4:30 a.m.) and be there every day, while focusing on my family and their health.”

The creamery, which opened their doors for the first time in 2021, is set to close at 318 Water Street in Gardiner this coming Friday. If you can, make sure you pop in and say farewell one final time.

Best of luck!
