An absolutely terrifying situation unfolded in Maine yesterday evening that led to a police chase and subsequent arrest.

Shoppers at the Target store in Bangor on Saturday say they witnessed a man forcing a woman into a rental van against her will in the parking lot. Bystanders immediately called 911 for help.

According to WABI TV 5 Bangor, the incident occurred at the Target parking lot shortly after 10 pm on Saturday night in Bangor. After the woman was forced into the van, the driver then took off.

As bystanders were calling police, some witnesses decided to follow the van. Witnesses say that they followed the suspect's van north on Stillwater Avenue and then lost sight of it when it drive down Kelly Road.

WABI reports that eventually, area police were able to catch up to the van on interstate 395 where it eventually pulled over and a single suspect was taken into custody.

Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old, Colby Cooper, of Brewer, Maine. Cooper has been charged with kidnapping and has since been transported to the Penobscot County Jail.

The female victim, who has not been publicly identified, was treated for what are being considered minor injuries.
