Maine Man Accused of Shooting Unhoused Person During Bangor Trail Attack
A Bangor man is facing serious charges after police say an unhoused person was shot several times during what investigators are calling an unprovoked attack.
According to WGME, the shooting was reported on June 15 on Talbot Trail, near Stillwater Avenue in Bangor.
Police say the victim told investigators he had been camping in the woods off Stillwater Avenue. While walking on the trail, the victim said he was approached by an unknown man. According to police, the two briefly spoke before the man pulled out a gun and began shooting.
The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Officials have not released additional information about the victim’s condition.
Following an investigation, Bangor police arrested 38-year-old Justin Grover of Bangor on Thursday. He has been charged with elevated aggravated assault in connection with the shooting, WGME reported.
Police say Grover had also previously been arrested during the investigation on a separate charge of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Grover was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he is being held on $100,000 cash bail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
