Police say that they began a pursuit in the town of Norridgewock, Maine on Sunday night after reports of a stolen car from Farmington being spotted speeding.

Police with the Somerset County Sheriff's Office gave chase to the 2010 Subaru Impreza at about 9:15 Sunday evening. The chase led Somerset County deputies from Mercer Road to Route 139. When the vehicle refused to stop at 139, a Sargent ordered deputies to suspend the pursuit.

Later that evening, Fairfield Police picked up the chase on Norridgewock Road. The vehicle then fled down Center Road according to the Kennebec Journal. The car then headed down Main Street before crossing the bridge over into Benton, Maine.

The driver of the stolen car then headed over the Sebasticook River and eventually down Albion Road. The chase, which reached speeds of 94 miles per hour, eventually ended on Albion Road where the suspect ditched the car and fled into the woods.

A k9 unit with the Maine State Police was dispatched to the scene but the dog was unable to successfully track the suspect, according to the news report.

The article went on to explain that investigating officers found a dog still inside the car after the driver had fled. Police took the dog back to the Fairfield Police Department until the rightful owner could be identified.

Police are asking anyone who may have information about the suspect of vehicle theft to contact the Fairfield Police Department at (207) 453-9322.
