When it comes to mice, unless they're pets, no one really likes them. That's why I hate the ones that currently living in my Maine home's utility room.

Our house, a split-level ranch style, is relatively new. It was built in 2017 and, up until the last week or so, we never had an issue with mice. Last week when my wife was in the laundry room, she saw a mouse scurry across the floor and back into the utility room.

After learning about this rodent-riddled situation I immediately went and got some mouse traps from my parents house (they too have a mouse problem). I set up my mousetraps in the utility room and let them do their thing.

This is probably the time I should let you know that I have a small hole in the side of my house where my generator feedline comes into the electrical panel. Pretty sure this is where these little pests are coming from so I WILL be filling that hole.

However, the overarching question, now that I've caught 5 mice in 4 days, are Maine mice smarter than mice from away? I ask this because despite the fact that I've caught several, I have camera footage of a few going up to the trap, smelling the peanut butter, but never touching it and scurrying away.

Mice are supposed to love PB, like to the point where nothing will make them resist it. But some of these mice seem privy to the fact that it's death butter. Have you ever seen a mouse avoid a tantalizing bait and run away? I surely haven't until this specific brood moved in.

Also, if there're other things I could be doing to help rid my home of this pesky, furry little problem, I implore you to send me a message through our station app with your best tips.
