When it comes to winter in New England, one of the best parts for so many kids is the immanent snow days.

Remember back in the 90s when we would wake up and see a fresh layer of snow outside? However, 'way back when', we didn't have convenient text messages coming right to us while we laid in bed letting us know that there was no school or that there was a two-hour delay.

Instead, we had to drag our tired selves out of bed and head out to the living room and turn the TV on. Then, we'd find whichever local news channel (usually all of them) that was scrolling all of the school closing along the bottom of the screen.

Of course that wasn't the end of the headache. The news station would typically be covering the entire state in alphabetical and numerical order by district. So, unless you timed it out perfectly, you had to wait for what seemed like ever for them to (hopefully) get to your school's district.

Finally, after what seemed like hours, we would either bask in the glory of a snow day, or sadly get off the couch and start getting ready for school. These days, it's a whole lot easier than it was 'back in the day'.

Now that it's 2024, not only do we get real-times updates about our schools sent right to our devices, we also have these nifty tools that can help predict the likelihood of a snow day.

So, since we have this tool at our disposal, let's take a look at the chances of a snow day for some different regions of Maine, shall we?

According to Snow Day Calculator, which uses up-to-date weather info, among other things, to make its prediction, there is a 77% chance that Augusta schools will have a snow day tomorrow (Dec 5th).

As we move closer to the coast, the website indicates only a 9% chance that schools in the Rockland area will have the day off tomorrow (Dec 5th).

Now, let's move to the sweet spot, which is further west of Augusta. When we check in with the town of Farmington, Maine, there is a whopping 94% chance of a snow day tomorrow (Dec 5th).

So basically, the closer you live to the Maine coast, the less likely you are to have a snow day on Thursday, however, the further west you go, the more those chances increase.
