When I walked into the Augusta Civic Center lobby yesterday, I was greeted by a smiling and familiar face. Becky from the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine (SAM) was checking attendees into the 35th Maine Sportsman's Show, which runs today (Saturday, 9-7) and tomorrow (10-4).

When I say there's something for everyone who loves the outdoors, that's not an exaggeration! There are campgrounds/sporting camps, boats, guns, fishing equipment, the Maine Bowhunters Association, alpacas, guides, trappers, fish and game clubs...to name just a few! The group that Renee is in, Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) is there, too. Yesterday, it was staffed by Erin, who runs the organization but I have it on good authority that, sometime today, Renee will actually be holding down the proverbial fort!

Now, I don't know about you but, whenever I'm outside shooting, boating, walking or engaging in some other activity, I like to eat. And one of my most favorite things to eat (especially when I use to snowmobile) is beef jerky. Heidi Jo's, which is based in New Hampshire, is some of the best I've had. I bought a pound of sweet and spicy (on sale) for twenty bucks. I've already gone through quite a bit!

While you're at the show, if you're a summer camper, there are plenty of campgrounds with information galore. Also there is the Lumberman's Museum in Patten, which I've been to and is totally worth the trip just for the displays and history of logging in Maine.

Enjoy the show with your family and visit with great Maine businesses from all over the state!
