Could Your Maine Neighbor Be in Witness Protection? Here Are a Few Clues
Hey Mainers, I have been into watching mafia shows and crime documentaries lately. One of the shows I watched featured a character in witness protection (WITSEC), which got me thinking if could someone I know, whether it’s a friend, coworker, or even my neighbor, could be living a secret life in witness protection?
It's such a fascinating thought that makes me want to dive right into finding out more. You never know about the hidden stories behind the people we interact with daily.
While it’s not common to spot someone from the U.S. Marshals Service’s WITSEC in your neighborhood, there are some signs that might hint at a hidden past.
If you’re like me and have a hobby for playing detective online, you may find yourself wondering if your neighbor is living a secret life in witness protection. Sure, we could be totally wrong, but wouldn’t it be amazing to uncover that your neighbor is hiding from the mob? Imagine that delicious drama!
Why would someone be put into WITSEC?
There are currently around 19,000 people in the United States being protected, according to WITSEC and living a totally different life then before, escaping their past lives.
Folks are put into this program to protect them from threats to their safety. This normally happens after they give testimony against dangerous criminals or organized crime members.
How to tell if someone is in WITSEC?
Here are some signs that might suggest your neighbor is in witness protection, according to Ranker, A&E, and Mental Floss,
- On the MOVE: Witnesses often move a lot to stay safe and unseen.
- Keepin' it on the DL: If they are super secretive and avoid sharing details about their past, this might mean they are in witness protection, or are just shy and don't trust easily.
- Lots of Makeovers: Witnesses often change their looks to avoid recognition. A sudden change in your neighbor’s hair, clothes, even plastic surgery may be suspicious.
- SECURE IT: If you're neighbor has a ton of security systems that could suggest they have a background that means they need it.
- No VISITORS: If your neighbor rarely has guests or visitors, it could mean they are trying to stay under the radar.
