Hey Hey Ladies!

First of all if you are a woman, like me, in a traditionally male dominated industry, let me start by saying, you go girl.

As gender equality gains momentum in our state, more and more women are breaking barriers and crashing glass ceiling. We are thriving in industries that have historically been a "boys club."

Being a woman in a male-dominated industry is all about embracing the evolution of challenge and change. We are now seizing opportunities, and working towards a more equal future.

It's about showing and proving that gender should not be a barrier to success and that diversity enriches every industry.

I can tell you from personal experience that the radio industry has mostly been a white male dominated field.

What is Maine's most male dominated industry?

The aquaculture industry seems to be Maines most predominantly male-dominated. This encompasses all aspects of the fishing industry and is according to several sources, like the Island Institute. 

However, there is a noticeable trend of women rising through the ranks and making their mark in this field.

Additionally here are other male-dominated sectors in Maine are,

• manufacturing
• construction
• professional
• business services
• policing
• auto care

There has been a notable shift as women are have made strides in these industries like construction and trades.

This really reshapes the perception of who can do what at work and how woman can thrive in these traditionally male run sectors.

It's important to know that the underrepresentation of women in these industries doesn't imply that their haven't been any.

Take Ginny Oliver as an excellent example.

Ginny is Maine's oldest lobster harvester and she started pulling her traps before the Great Depression at 8 years old according to USA today.
