Maine Musician Rob Burnell Returns Home After Nasty Motorcycle Crash; GoFundMe Created to Help
If you haven't heard by now, popular Maine musician Rob Burnell was involved in a serious motorcycle crash on Tuesday evening.
Rob, whose own father passed away in a tragic motorcycle accident several years ago, was heading home from the town of Orland when a deer jumped out in front of him a little past 7 p.m.
Rob hit the deer and fell from his motorcycle. Following the crash, passersby called for help, and Rob was swiftly taken to the Waldo County Hospital where he was stabilized and flown by helicopter to the trauma unit at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
After being intubated and in an induced coma for more than 24 hours, Rob was able to wake up and be extubated.
An absolute miracle. It was determined that though he suffered a gnarly wound to his head and a substantial road rash, there was no long-term neuro impairment.
On September 5, Rob was released from the hospital and returned to his new home with his fiancé, Ashley, and their two precious babies.
Rob still has a long road to full recovery.
Family and friends have since created a GoFundMe to assist Rob and Ashley with upcoming expenses and medical bills during this trying time.
According to an excerpt from the GoFundMe page,
At approximately 7 p.m. Rob was returning to Augusta. In Belmont , a deer ran out and hit his bike. Rob was taken to Waldo County Hospital, where he was intubated and air lifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center to the trauma unit to be evaluated for swelling of the brain and also checking for a brain bleed and other numerous wounds. EMMC and Waldo County confirmed that he did not have swelling on the head but did sustain multiple injuries to the rest of his body including a skin graft for his injured head wound when he left the bike.
