Martha’s Vineyard has always been on my bucket list and this weekend, my family and I finally made the trip.

When you step off of the ferry, you are instantly swept up with the islands beauty. It was breathtaking and every inch begged to be explored but with so much to see, how do you take it all in, on one visit?

Simple: you hire a tour guide. But not just any guide, the guide of all guides.

The Secret to Seeing It All? A Tour Guide Like No Other

If Martha’s Vineyard is the crown jewel of New England, then Alejandro Carreno is the sparkle that makes it all shine so brightly. He works at MV Sightseeing close to the ferry and I would personally ask for him!

My family and I, 13 of us deep, jumped on board a big bus expecting a cute little informative ride, but what we got was pure magic.

My son and I sat right up front, as we realized quickly that our guide was like Gandalf but tall, dark, handsome, and Cuban.

Alejandro rolled us through all five towns on the island, pointing out every little detail, like where Jackie Kennedy Onassis vacationed to Bill Murrays driveway. And of course legendary movie Jaws was filmed all over the island and he showed us each scene!

But let’s be honest, this wasn’t about the celebrity homes or even rich history of the island, it was Alejandro himself.

Born in Cuba and living on the Vineyard for 15 years, he’s only been driving the bus for a couple years, but it’s crystal clear, he found his calling.

The Renaissance Man of Martha’s Vineyard

Alejandro is certainly a renaissance man from his stories but he's also an incredible artist, actor, and storyteller.

The man is electric, and he doesn’t just give you a tour, he gives you a feeling of connection.

When he’s not making tourists fall in love with the island, he’s out spearfishing and soaking up his favorite watering spots. Yes, Martha’s Vineyard is lovely, but the real heart of any trip are the people who make you feel something and he did that and more.

So if you're headed to the Vineyard and want the best ride of your life, find Alejandro. Trust me.

You’ll leave with more than photos. You will leave with a story.
