It's usually quiet, peaceful and serene in the beautiful town of Rangeley, Maine. Usually. That is until reports of screams on the lake get called in to local dispatch centers. That's exactly what happened on Wednesday afternoon on the lake.

According to the Kennebec Journal, officials received calls from a third-party about screams from a woman on the lake. Rangeley firefighters responded to the lake and deployed on the department's rescue boats. They were able to determine that the screams were coming from a boat floating idly in the water.

Once they arrived at the boat they discovered 43-year-old Alexis Probasco of Sutton Massachusetts, along with another man and two children. Reports indicate that Probasco was attempting to overpower the man to take control of the boat and allegedly crash it into the shoreline. The man on board was able to keep the boat in neutral to prevent that from happening.

Authorities escorted the boat to the shores of Rangeley State Park where Franklin County Sheriff's deputies were waiting. Probasco was taken into custody on charges of domestic violence assault, and if convicted, could carry maximum penalties of $2,000 and 364 days in jail. As of the publication time of this article, Probasco remained at the Franklin County Detention Center on $300 cash bail.
