How I Accidentally Became Mr. Drew’s Assistant Over The Memorial Day Weekend
You know him as Maine's foremost expert on all things wildlife. We know him as a great friend of Matt & Lizzy in The Morning (and Maine's foremost expert on all things wildlife). Of course we're talking about the wildly knowledgeable and entertaining, Mr. Drew & His Animals, Too!
Over the weekend, we went out to spend the weekend at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Campground, which I will always and forever call Beaver Brook. But anyway, I digress.
As it is one of the busiest weekends of the year for campgrounds all across the state of Maine, Yogi Bear had a wide array of events planned for the families that were there. There was a foam party, inflatable water slide, mud tug-of-war and of course a show with Mr. Drew & His Animals, Too!
We took the kids down to the rec hall to peep at all the cool critters Mr. Drew had brought along. However, there were hundreds of people that descended upon the animals all at the same time. So I decided to lend a helping hand.
Honestly, it was mostly self-serving so I could have more time with the animals, but I consider it helping. Since I'm familiar with Gus the Tegu, I showed dozens of kids how to properly touch an interact with him. I also got to explain to them why he kept wanting to be in the sun.
After that, there were loads of children (and parents!) who wanted a chance to hold the giant boa constrictor and grab a photo. Mr. Drew was busy handling tarantulas and scorpions (no thanks!) so I then decided to jump in and help with the snake.
All in all it was a wonderful afternoon of getting to hang out with one of the coolest dudes in all of Central Maine, and his animals, too! Thanks again for letting me hang and have some fun interacting with the kids. Send me an application, maybe we can make this a regular thing ;)
JK... but not really!
