Mr. Drew Taking In Animals Abandoned Amid The Pandemic
With the economic issues caused by the on-going coronavirus pandemic, this is a very sad, and all-too-common, occurrence. People have found they no longer have the means to care for their pets.
Often, these pets are of the cute and cuddly variety. The puppies and kitties, and sometimes rodents, get taken in by shelters like the Kennebec Valley Humane Society. However, this is not always the case.
Recently, Mr. Drew (of "Mr. Drew and his animals, too" fame) was contacted by the staff at the KVHS. Someone had left a ball python on their loading dock. The attached note explained that, due to their current situation, the owners would be unable to continue to care for their beloved (albeit, scaley) member of their family.
Of course, Mr. Drew took in the snake and fed him, too.
In his Facebook post, Mr. Drew explained:
"This is how it has been for me since Covid-19 started here back in March. I have taken in so many animals with the same story, people are struggling and cannot afford their pets."
The good news is that you can help support these critters. You can donate at Mr. Drew's website, you can purchase items from his Amazon wish list, or you can attend his fundraiser at the Lost Valley Brew Pub on Wednesday (August 19th) evening.
