Fortunately, New England isn't home to much crazy-dangerous weather. What I mean by that is we're not usually in the path of category 4 hurricanes or in the middle of 'tornado alley'.

What New England does have, however, is frigid temperatures and very blustery winds. And, in case you didn't know, the most blustery winds in all of New England (and the entire world) can be found atop the summit of Mount Washington.

And, again in case you didn't know, those peak gusts typically happen either in winter, or darn close to it. While the overall record wasn't broken this year, it still has been VERY windy atop New England's tallest peak.

According to an article published by WGME 13, to break into the top 10 wind gusts of all time at the peak, wind speeds need to meet or exceed 170 mph. Though that didn't happen this week, it came pretty close.

On Monday the Mount Washington Observatory recorded a wind gust of 161 miles per hour. And while that is insanely fast, it's not the fastest ever recorded up there. To get that number, we have to travel back in time.
