This week’s Perseid meteor shower could be one for the ages, that is if we get clearing skies. The annual shooting star spectacle will hit it's peak Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

This years showers could feature as many as 90 to 100 shooting stars an hour. That's according to the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and the Royal Astronomical Society in the U.K.

For Mainers, the most best time to view will likely be around 4 am.

The Perseids showers are caused by the Earth passing through dust particles of the comet Swift-Tuttle.
