Maine’s Beloved Portland Harbor Christmas Boat Parade Returns This December
Save the date for the Portland Harbor Christmas Parade of Lights. It's happening on December 13.
This festive tradition has been lighting up Portland Harbor for 25 years, drawing hundreds of spectators each season. Local boaters deck out their vessels in Christmas lights and parade around the harbor, and of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus make an appearance!
Chris Keane, the founder of the parade back in 2001, told the Downeaster, "It’s just amazing how beautiful all the boats look, and then you put it with the reflection in the water. The lights are just incredible."
This family-friendly event is free to attend from the shore. It’s so much fun to watch the variety of boats, from yachts to tugboats, all uniquely decorated in bright holiday lights.
And here’s a little secret… there may even be fireworks!
If you want a water-level view, you can ride along on Casco Bay Lines ferries. Another great spot to watch the parade is from Dimillo's Marina.
