Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has been suspended for one game by the NFL for a hit on defensive back Tre’Davious White of the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

In a letter to Gronkowski released by the NFL, John Runyan, vice president of football operations, outlined the reasons for the suspension

“Your actions were not incidental, could have been avoided and placed the opposing player at risk of serious injury.  The Competition Committee has clearly expressed its goal of ‘eliminating flagrant hits that have no place in our game.’  Those hits include the play you were involved in yesterday.”

Patriots coach Bill Belichick acknowledged that the hit was bad to the Bills' staff during the postgame handshake (NSFW language).

According to the Boston Globe, Gronkowski, who plans to appeal the suspension, will also lose a game check for $250,000 and a game-day roster bonus of over $30,000 due to the suspension.
