A group of young soccer players from Central Maine came home from Memorial Day weekend with a championship, a banner, and a story they will probably be telling for years.

The Central Maine United Premier U11 Coed team won its division at the Boston International Cup Memorial Day tournament, capping off a five-game weekend against tough competition from across New England.

The tournament brought together hundreds of teams across multiple age groups, giving youth players a chance to compete in a high-energy, high-pressure tournament setting in the Boston area. For Central Maine United, the weekend included cold weather, torrential rain, injuries, and the kind of pressure that can test even the most experienced teams.

But this group of U11 players kept battling.

CMU opened tournament play Saturday, May 23, with a dominant 5-0 win over NEFC. Later that same day, the team picked up another big result, defeating FC Boston Bolts 2-1. On Sunday, Central Maine United battled MA Rush to a 2-2 draw, helping the team advance into the Gold bracket.

Once there, CMU kept rolling.

In the Gold semifinals on Monday, May 25, Central Maine United defeated Valeo FC 5-2 to earn a spot in the championship game.

The final turned into the defining moment of the weekend.

Central Maine United fell behind 2-0 in the championship match before staging a huge comeback to win the title. Head Coach Jordan Tozier described it as one of the most intense youth soccer games he had ever coached or witnessed, praising his players for staying composed despite the noise, pressure, and stakes of the moment.

According to Tozier, the team never quit, stayed locked in, and found a way to walk off the field as champions.

The weekend also featured a standout individual performance from Emilio, who scored 12 goals during the tournament. According to team posts, Emilio finished with the highest goal total of any player in the entire tournament, across all age groups. Among the 42 U11 teams competing, the next closest player had nine goals.

Central Maine United also averaged more goals per game than any other U11 team in the tournament, across all brackets.

Still, the championship was a full-team effort. Tozier credited every player for having moments of greatness throughout the weekend, especially while battling through difficult weather, injuries, and a demanding five-game tournament schedule.

He also thanked the team’s parents and supporters, saying their loud cheering helped make a difference during the weekend.

Central Maine United celebrated the championship on social media, congratulating the U11 Coed Premier team for winning the Boston International Cup tournament over Memorial Day weekend.

The win is a major accomplishment for the program and a proud moment for youth soccer in Central Maine. CMU’s Premier program gives young players in the region an opportunity to develop, compete, and test themselves against strong teams from Maine and beyond.

For this group, the trip to Boston ended with medals, memories, and a championship earned the hard way.

Down 2-0 in the final. Five games in one weekend. Rain, cold, injuries, and pressure.

And somehow, Central Maine United still found a way to bring the title home.
