Go On a Wild Ride With Taron Egerton’s Elton John in the First ‘Rocketman’ Trailer
Dexter Fletcher’s upcoming Elton John biopic isn’t exactly based on a true story, but as the first teaser trailer reveals, it’s based on a true fantasy. That’s especially fitting for the new footage from Rocketman, which introduces Taron Egerton as the music legend with a taste of the magical.
The teaser is brief, but we get to hear the Kingsman star singing the titular 1972 song – and yes, that’s his voice. But this teaser is really all about the fashion, with Egerton donning the iconic popstar’s big-framed, bedazzled sunglasses, a sparkly Dodgers uniform, an elaborate royal costume suited for a true queen, a jeweled orange jumpsuit with devilish horns, and two sets of silk robes that will make you re-think your entire wardrobe. The musical will jump through time to show the beginning of the musician’s career, his rise to megastardom, and his struggle with addiction.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Rocketman is an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years, starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Based on this short tease I can’t wait to see more footage, if just to get a look at the rest of the costumes. Rocketman hits theaters May 31, 2019.
