A Rumford woman was arrested after being involved in a police chase with speeds hitting 80 mph on Rt 4, from Turner to near the Auburn Mall on Sunday (03/08/15).

Elsa Konopka, 23 was arrested and charged with drug possession and possessing drug paraphernalia, operation without a license, and failure to stop.

According to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, the chase ended near the Auburn Mall when the cruiser, driven by Trooper Ricci Cote, made contact with the woman’s car and she spun out.  Konopka was arrested and charged with possessing crack, failing to stop for a police officer,  operating without a license, and possessing drug paraphernalia.

According to McCausland, Cote attempted to stop Konopka's car in Turner for going only 29 mph  in a 55 mph zone.  McCausland said Konopka then sped off, with her speed reaching 80 mph at one point. Along the way, the woman threw a loaded .22 caliber handgun out the window, which was later recovered.  There was little damage to both cars. Found inside her car was a small amount of crack cocaine and a crack pipe. Auburn Police assisted as the chase ended and transported Konopka to the county jail.
