People are always working overtime to scam good people out of their hard-earned money. And, in most cases, people will take advantage of people's fear to do just that.

According to News Center MAINE, there is a new scam beginning to rear it's head here in the United States, and it all has to do with the coronavirus. As we all know by now, a vaccine from Pfizer is just weeks away from probably massive distribution here in the United States. Unfortunately, there won't be enough for every single American right out of the gate which means quantities, at least at first, will most likely be limited. This is where scammers are attempting to capitalize.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, Americans (especially seniors) need to be very mindful about certain things regarding the vaccine. First and foremost they want everyone to know that you CANNOT purchase early access to the COVID vaccine. As you can imagine, the FTC along with other Federal organizations, are reminding people that the Government would never call, email, text or show up at your door offering early and guaranteed access to the COVID-19 vaccine in exchange for money. If this happens to you or someone you know, it is a scam. Do not fall for this.

A statement from the Federal Trade Commission reads in part, "If you get a call, text, email — or even someone knocking on your door — claiming they can get you early access to the vaccine, STOP. That’s a scam. Don’t pay for a promise of vaccine access or share personal information."

If you think someone has attempted to scam you or someone you know, the best thing you can do is report it. The process is fairly simple and only takes a few minutes. Just go to the fraud report page on the FTC website by clicking here. If you're still unsure on how to proceed, call your local authorities and ask for specific direction and guidance.
