Three Charged After Drug Bust During Skowhegan Traffic Stop
Three people are facing charges after police say a traffic stop in Skowhegan led to the discovery of fentanyl and cocaine, WGME reported.
According to police, officers stopped a vehicle on Middle Road at around 9 p.m. Saturday for a missing registration plate and loud exhaust.
WGME reported that a K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle. During a search, officers reportedly found 91.83 grams of fentanyl, 27.37 grams of cocaine, and 54.06 grams of cutting substance.
Police arrested 30-year-old Sadie MacDonald of Fairfield, 51-year-old Louis Lopez, and 38-year-old Michael Griffin of Farmingdale.
MacDonald and Lopez were both charged with aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs. Lopez was also charged with unsworn falsification.
Griffin was charged with operating after license suspension, failure to provide proof of insurance, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid inspection sticker, the news station said.
The arrests come as Maine continues to see dangerous drugs like fentanyl showing up in communities across the state. Law enforcement agencies have repeatedly warned that even small amounts of fentanyl can be deadly, and cases like this highlight how often the drug is being found during routine police work, including traffic stops. Police continue to urge people to report suspected drug activity and to seek help if they or someone they know is struggling with substance use.
