I could have taken pictures of exhibits all day long. The display of "bugs" was so gigantic and so impressive, it would take a person the whole day to see and learn about every one that was there.
Welcome springtime! The warmer temperatures, the long days and the world starts to wake up! This little guy (who is about an inch long, so he is not so little) was in one of the studio's this morning at 92Moose. He was helping me get ready for the 92Moose Morning Show.
Bug Maine-ia will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maine State Museum, State St., Augusta. Entomologists, environmental educators, foresters, and others will guide visitors of all ages through the tiny world of insects and show how these creatures affect our lives in many surprising ways. Admission is free of charge all day.
Continuing our unofficial "Stop Being Afraid of Insects" series, here are 16 pictures of ladybugs. Granted, most people aren't afraid of ladybugs, but they've probably never seen that video of a ladybug taking off in super-slow motion. Or had a house infested with them. They can be pretty disturbing when they're part of a throbbing ladybug mass. But not like this. This is adorable.
Read
Listen, don't read this while you're eating. Come back when you've finished though. It's just that reading about parboiling insects might have a negative effect on your appetite. See, the 17-year cicadas have already started to emerge from the ground, and there are going to be billions of them. BILLIONS. So, you may as well eat some, right?
Well, it's finally happened -- someone died after gorging themselves in an eating contest. But here's the kicker: The 32-year-old man in question passed away after scarfing down dozens of roaches and worms. Ick! Why couldn't it have been something tasty like hot dogs or buffalo wings?
The headline is perfect....not only for me but, judging by some of the looks on the kids' and adults' faces at the Maine State Museum, for a lot of others as well. It was the 10th annual Bug Maine-ia!
