This is not about shaming, it's about options.

It was time for us to get a new friend for our dog, Oden. We have had the puppy fever, for a while.

You know I'm a big believer in adopting your furry friends. Oden, my dog who is more popular on social media than I am, but don't get me started, came to us from the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society in Lewiston. They do an amazing job and here's your chance to support them with 'Pause for Pets,' Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Ramada Inn, Pleasant St., Lewiston.

I'm sure you have heard about the tragic story of the dog, who we now know as Abby, that was abandoned last week at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society. The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society has set up the 'Abby Fund,' in memory of the dog abandoned last week and later killed in traffic. It has been created to help other dogs brought in with injuries.

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society staff and volunteers have been searching for a dog that was abandoned outside of their facility on Monday (Jan. 25) evening. Unfortunately, it was discovered the abandoned dog had been hit by a car near the off ramp of the bridge near their Lewiston building, and died.

For some time our family has been talking about getting a second cat, as a playmate or friend for "Thunder." So yesterday, Lynn and I told the kids we'd go to The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society just to look. "Just to look" is I guess code in our house for bring the cat carrier just in case. We have him, 'Thunder' our new kitten from The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society. “Thunder” is two months old, born on September 26, 2012, neutered and vaccinated and officially adopted.

The search for a new cat has a conclusion. I was working so I couldn't go with the family to pick out the kitten. We found one at The Greater Androscoggin Human Society. A little gray kitten who my sons are calling 'Thunder.'
