As Halloween approaches, haunted houses across the state are gearing up for their scariest season yet! Bigger and better then ever and I for one am very excited to get spooked.

I recently listened to a podcast where they discussed haunted houses. One of the guests mentioned a place she visited in Europe that was allowed to tase guests if they signed a waiver. This got me curious!

While a lot of us thrill-seekers are excited to experience the traditional jump scare atmosphere of a good old haunted house or hayride, some are wanting more. Which makes me wonder just how far these attractions can go in delivering all of the scares.

Believe it or not there are some places in the US and abroad that, if you sign a release form you can be waterboarded, tasered, and more. Personally, no thanks.

Obviously we all know that a release form is a legal document that waives someone’s right to hold a place liable for a law suit if an incident occurs.

In Maine, while release forms can definitely give a business some level of protection for haunted house owners, they do not let harmful or dangerous practices occur, as per Maine law and electronic weapons.

Most haunted houses are designed with safety in mind. Owners typically create a fun and spooky atmosphere while always making sure to decrease the chances of any unsafe incidents happening.

So the big question..

Can you be tased at a Maine haunted house if you sign a release?

No.  Because while the release form offers some protection, it doesn’t give a haunted house in Maine the right to use dangerous or harmful practices, aka tasing guests.

So, if you're gearing up for a spooky night out this Halloween, you can rest assure that while the scares may be scary, safety is a top priority.

What states use tasers in haunted houses?

These states don't mention tasers but do have extreme physical interactions.

McKamey Manor in California, The 17th Door in California, Hell House in New York, Shocktoberfest in Pennsylvania are infamous for the extreme and intense haunt experiences, whereas if you sign a waiver, you can go through rigorous physical and psychological challenges.

When visiting a haunted house in Maine, you can expect a range of spooky experiences. However, the use of non-lethal weapons like tasers are not part of the attraction.
