The Maine House voted to override the governor’s veto of a bill that would put a bottle deposit nips. According to WABI Governor LePage said if lawmakers are really concerned about littering, they should ban little bottles all together. The bill heads to the senate for a vote.

Just after announcing her run for Maine's Governor in 2018  former DHHS Commission Mary Mayhew is already facing a controversy.  The Portland Press Herald sent a cease-and-desist letter to over a fake front page with the mastheads and fake headlines.

The Waterville Planning Board OK'ed final plans for a $200 million, 350,000-square-foot athletic complex at Colby College. According to Centralmaine.com it will have the first Olympic-sized swimming pool in Maine. If should be done by 2020 and then the old building will be taken down and become a green space.

An Augusta man pleaded guilty to 'endangering the welfare of a child' in connection with an incident last  fall when is 2-year-old son ended up floating facedown in the Kennebec River. Centralmaine.com reported if  Christopher J. Norwood meets certain conditions, like taking a parenting class, he will be allowed to withdraw the plea and the case will be dismissed, if not, he can go to jail for up to 364.

Former Maine Health and Human Commissioner Mary Mayhew is running for governor, vowing to continue reforms she's helped implement during the administration of Republican Gov. Paul LePage. The former Democrat-turned-Republican said Tuesday that she has worked on behalf of the governor to get the state's finances in order and to implement welfare reforms that are getting people back to work. She doesn't want to turn the clock back.

A municipal office building in Maine has reopened after officials say a disgruntled man slammed a cup full of bedbugs on the counter, releasing about 100 of the pests. Augusta officials told that Kennebec Journal that exterminators are confident all the bedbugs were killed before the City Center building opened Monday.

Authorities say five jail inmates apparently suffered overdoses at the Strafford County Jail and three of them have been hospitalized in serious condition. WMUR-TV reports the five inmates lived together in one section of the jail in Dover. Rescuers were called to the jail at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Some of the inmates were in their cells; others were in common areas. Dover Fire Chief Eric Hagman says jail staff had administered Narcan to inmates.

Federal fishing managers say studies are planned for an important New England scallop fishing area that's been a source of conflict in the fishery in recent months. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says it's facilitating survey work in the northern Gulf of Maine this summer. Small boats came into conflict with bigger boats in the northern Gulf of Maine this year over differences in the way the boats are managed.

When it came to his obituary, a theater professor from Maine left nothing to chance. He wrote it himself, in the first person. Minor Rootes, who died Saturday at 86, used the opportunity to thank those who were positive influences in his life, including his parents, his former wife and his current wife. He also thanked his oncologist and Mercy Hospital "for keeping me alive for an extra decade."

A person familiar with the situation says former FBI Director James Comey asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to keep him from being alone with President Donald Trump. The person, who was not authorized to discuss the matter by name and spoke on condition of anonymity, says the request was made because of concerns Comey had about Trump. Comey is expected to testify before the Senate intelligence committee on Thursday about his encounters with Trump in the weeks before his May 9 firing.

Bill Cosby's chief accuser says she shot down the actor's casual advances twice before she found herself paralyzed and unable to fight him off the night she took pills that he said were herbal supplements. Andrea Constand emerged from 12 years of silence Tuesday to testify at Cosby's sexual assault trial. She will return to the witness stand Wednesday. Constand told jurors how her professional relationship with the Temple University trustee evolved into a friendship.

Relatives of Australian Sara Zelenak have confirmed she was killed in the London attacks over the weekend. The 21-year-old worked as a nanny in London and had previously been described as missing after the attacks Saturday night. Two of the seven victims killed were Australian.
