Have You Heard The Story Of The Maine House Built In England?
As a history geek, I am all about this kind of stuff. And, when I first heard this story, I knew I had to know more.
According to Only In Your State, there is a house in North Berwick that was actually built in England!
So, was the home transported to the United States one board at a time, one stone at a time? Nope! The house has never moved from the spot where it was constructed.
So, how is it possible this house was built in England?
Well, it has more to do with when the home was built and less to do with where it was built.
According to a non-active listing on Realtor.com, original part of this 3,000 square foot home was built back in 1686. Back when Maine was still a part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Yes, it was constructed nearly a century before the start of the Revolutionary War that would eventually lead to the creation of the United States.
Clearly, some parts of the home have been updated. We are guessing that the sun room is not original to the home.
