Tugging for Triumph: Travis Mills Plane Pull Challenge in Maine Takes Off Saturday
The annual Travis Mills Foundation Plane Pull is back at the Northeast Air at Portland International Jetport and my fellow Mainers, it’s bringing an incredible blend of strength, teamwork, and spirit.
When? The pull is scheduled for October 5 10 AM-2 PM.
It’s a super unique fundraiser that challenges teams to pull a massive 80,000-pound plane across the tarmac at the jetport, all in support of the incredible work done by the Travis Mills Foundation.
Have you ever heard of anything like this?
I hadn't and when I attended my first year I was overwhelmed by what I was seeing. Teams of 20 are literally pulling a 45-ton FedEx plane as far as they can, as fast as they can. It really is a sight to see.
What is the Travis Mills Foundation?
The foundation is led by retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills, he is a quadruple amputee who has been focusing on helping other recalibrated vets and their families overcome the challenges of life after service.
Teams of 20 folks will come together to tackle the ultimate test of strength of pulling this massive jet 20 feet across the runway together.

If you’d rather skip pulling the plane but still want to join the fun, 92 Moose will be playing all the hits, and News Center Maine will be emceeing the event.
The most memorable part of the experience for me was seeing everyone come together, laughing, talking, and pulling, all of us united for a cause we all care about so much.
Enjoy activities for the kiddos, food trucks, and tons of community spirit!
It's a thrilling spectacle to watch, and I hope you are able to join in on the fun this Saturday!
