In recent years, updates to summer concert venues in Maine have attracted some big name artists to the Pine Tree State.  These venues include Darling's Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor, the Maine Savings Pavilion in Westbrook, and Thompson's Point in Portland.

Now, it looks like upgrades to an existing amphitheater in Central Maine could do the same thing.

According to the KJ, renovations on Snow Pond Center for The Art's Bowl In The Pines Amphitheater.  The renovations, which cost $1 million and took about three years to complete, will be finished in June.

The final phase, of the three phase project, includes the installation of electrical systems and rigging over the stage.  Additionally, they be putting the finishing touches on the ADA restrooms, the addition of two concession areas and the installation of a new permeable paver patio in front of the bowl.

This renovation increases the venue's capacity from 2,000 to nearly 4,000.  Eventually, with the addition of even more seating, the venue will be able to hold over 7,000!

The plan is for the venue to host about 20 shows per summer, including some put on by the students at the Snow Pond Center For The Arts.  Each show will bring about $300,000 to the local economy.

The Bowl In The Pines Amphitheater is really a piece of local history.  Built in 1930, it is reportedly the largest amphitheater East of the Mississippi.

Due in part to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there is no word on exactly when the venue will host its next show.

This is definitely exciting news for Maine concert lovers.  Who knows, in the next few years, we could see Kenny Chesney having lunch at The Red Barn in Augusta, Thomas Rhett at the Dunkin' inside Mulligans in Manchester, or Taylor Swift having a slice at Cappza's in Waterville!  Okay, maybe not, but it could happen!
