Two Arrested in Waterville Drug Bust After Six-Month Investigation
Two people are facing serious drug trafficking charges after a months-long investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) led to a bust in Waterville earlier this week.
According to the MDEA, agents had been investigating a suspected drug trafficking operation connected to the Swanville area for approximately six months. As part of that investigation, authorities developed information that an out-of-state supplier was traveling to Waterville by Greyhound bus on Monday, allegedly carrying a significant quantity of illegal drugs.
WGME says 38-year-old Candy Duprey of Unity drove to Waterville to pick up the suspected trafficker, identified as 45-year-old Claudio Villae of Boston. After Villae was picked up, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle Duprey was driving.
During a search of the vehicle, agents say they discovered approximately 137.2 grams of cocaine and 66.6 grams of heroin. Both individuals were taken into custody at the scene, the news station reported.
Duprey and Villae have each been charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking of Schedule W drugs. They were transported to the Kennebec County Jail following their arrests.
Villae’s bail has been set at $100,000 cash. Duprey was not granted bail, as authorities say she was already out on bail for separate pending charges, including theft and violating bail conditions.
The MDEA says the investigation remains active, and additional charges or arrests could be possible as agents continue to follow up on leads related to the case.
