Governor’s Restaurant & Bakery on Main Street is temporarily closed while addressing a building maintenance issue discovered during a recent health inspection.

According to the Kennebec Journal, a message posted to the eatery’s social media page reassured customers: “We want to be clear: we are taking immediate corrective action and working with licensed professionals to ensure the situation is fully resolved. Guest safety is a core value for us, and we won’t reopen until we meet and exceed every requirement. We appreciate your patience and can’t wait to welcome you back soon.”

The restaurant, located at 376 Main St., near the Interstate 95 off-ramp, also posted a note on its door stating, “Due to unexpected maintenance, we will be closed until further notice.”

The KJ explained that Waterville’s Director of Code Enforcement, Building, Plumbing, and Electrical Inspections, Dan Bradstreet, said his office was not involved in the closure. “It may have been a directive from the State Health Inspector’s Office unless it was a voluntary closure for a maintenance issue,” he noted in an email Wednesday.

Governor’s Restaurant & Bakery also operates locations in Old Town, Bangor, Lewiston, Presque Isle, and Ellsworth. Attempts to reach owner and CEO Jason Clay by phone and email Wednesday afternoon were not immediately returned to the Kennebec Journal.

We'll keep an eye on this story and keep you updated with any information regarding a potential reopening date for the Waterville eatery.
