Well Known Actor Donates To Planned Waterville Arts Center
According to the KJ, actor Ed Harris is donating $75,000 to the future Paul J. Schupf Art Center. The actor's donation will support a $2 million community capital campaign. That campaign is part of the $18 million that is needed for the project.
Harris is well known for movies like "The Truman Show", "Apollo 13", "The Rock", "The Abyss", and "Pollock". He was also in the HBO series "Westworld" miniseries "Empire Falls", which was filmed in Waterville.
In a statement, Harris said, “Ever since living in Waterville and working on Empire Falls some 15 years ago, the town and the people in it have held a fond place in my heart. This project is such a great idea and will enrich the lives of so many that I felt compelled and honored to contribute in what I hope is a meaningful way.”
The art center, a joint project between Waterville Creates! and Colby College, will be located at 93 Main Street in Waterville. Once completed, the center will promote the arts and arts education in Central Maine.
