We all understand that Maine roads are not paradise. They are bumpy, muddy, dirty as hell, and are basically obstacle courses for half of the year.

The massive amount of salt, slush, and dirt do not help your car stay pristine and shiny through the seasons of Maine.

And it's that time of year in Maine, when the mud is too muddy and it becomes an unavoidable tragedy for your vehicle.

But if your car is rocking that “Maine-driver-hasn’t-seen-a-carwash-in-a-decade” look, it may cost more then side-eye from your passenger.

You can get into trouble if you're car is filthy in Maine

We uncovered that under Maine law, having a dirty windshield or windows that can obstruct your vision while driving can certainly get you pulled over and ticketed.

The official name of the law is Title 29-A §2082: Obstruction of Windshields and Windows.

The law states the following,

"A person may not operate a vehicle with a sign, poster, opaque or semitransparent material or substance on the front windshield, side wing or side or rear window that obstructs the operator's clear view of the way or an intersecting way. "

So get this, if your windows are caked in dirt and grime to the point where you can barely see through them, you are violating the law.

Same goes for windows that are super tinted or stickers covering them.

This is obviously common sense and the idea is simple, if your windows are blocked, don’t drive.

Clean them up, remove what’s obstructing your view, or you’ll probably get a ticket.

Now, Maine government does understand that our state gets pretty dirty which in turn makes your car dirty, and do not want to take away your "rugged look", it’s simply about safety.

So give your whoopdy a rinse every now and then.
