For the past hour I’ve been racking my brain trying to come up with something to write about. Usually when this happens I look up “this date in history” items. Often there, I’ll get inspiration.

Not sure how old you are as you read this; 20 years ago the #1 song on the 'Billboard Hot 100' was “How Do You Talk To An Angel” by the Heights. It was the theme to the TV show , 'The Heights.' When that song was hot I was taking my broadcasting course.

The number #1 Song 10 years ago on this date on the same chart was “Lose Yourself” by Eminem. In 2002 I was here playing that to the max. Justin our 2nd was just nine months old. That song was the theme more or less to the movie ‘8 Mile’ which was sort of the Eminem story.

For the parents reading this; the #1 song 30 years ago was “Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes. That song too was from a soundtrack, ‘An Officer And A Gentleman.’ In 1982 I was 10, Justin’s age. I was playing with Legos, skinning my knee on my bike and maybe watching TV for just an hour a day.

As Dick Clark used to say, “Music is the soundtrack of our lives.” Songs from the past capture moments like old pictures or perfume. Today if I smell Exclamation I look around to see who has bangs sprayed to the sky.
