To us, the State of Maine is kind of like having a sibling, am I right? Like, we're totally allowed to talk crap about it and beat it up for petty reasons, but when someone else does it- step off! That's kind of what just happened on TikTok.

You see, as a Native born-and-raised Mainer, I take pride in my state. It's not just some barren wasteland that people think is part of Canada. Maine is home to some of the most scenic wilderness and cultural heritage this side of the Mississippi River. However, for one TikTok account, Maine apparently has nearly a dozen reasons why people should never consider moving here- and Maine residents fired back accordingly.

For starters, let's jump into the claims made in the video. Created by an account called Tighten That Wallet, the video says they have the top 10 reasons why people shouldn't move to the Pine Tree State.

The first reason they mention is that the housing costs are expensive. And, while Maine housing prices are actually on par, sometimes below, much of the National averages, it is the smaller earning potential here that makes housing seem like it's so expensive. Whoops, I didn't mean to help their argument.

The second thing they point out, using a picture of a tick, is that Maine has a lot of bugs. Well, duh- we're like 90% woodlands, of course there's going to be bugs. At least in Maine you don't run the risk of being eaten alive by an alligator!

The third thing on their list of reasons why people shouldn't move to Maine is that there's 'not many people'. This is actually true. Maine is a MASSIVE state in comparison to several others and our population is just a smidge over 1.3 million. But ya know what? We like it that way!

The next thing they falsely claim, is that Maine has 'no major airports'. For real? A quick Google search would tell anybody that Maine is home to not one, but TWO International airports. And one of those airports has a runway so long that the Presidential airplane (a Boeing 747) can (and has) land there.

The next thing the video claims is that Maine has an 'older population'. First of all, leave nana out of this. Secondly, of course we have an older population. We are the epitome of health up here and a steady diet of Moxie and Humpty Dumpty chips has helped us live well into our early 200s.

There are a few more reasons that the delve into, but for now, these are the 'hot button' ones that are seemingly getting users from Maine to jump into the comment section with their rebuttals.
