Maine is a pretty amazing state. Not just because of it's majestic mountains, incredible lakes and unbeatable winter skiing, but because of the people that call this place home. Mainers, no matter the time of the year, are always looking for ways to give back to the community. However, during the Christmas season, we see that generosity and desire to give back increase tenfold.

According to the Kennebec Journal, one Central Maine business is keeping the tradition of giving alive. The Ice Cream Shoppe in Skowhegan is using donation made to the store to purchase and deliver Christmas gifts to at least 21 kids who may have otherwise gone without anything under the tree this holiday.

The donations to for the drive came from patrons and other local businesses alike. Tina Gardner, co-owner of the Ice Cream Shoppe, then reached out to administrators at MSAD 54 to gather a list of children in the area who could use the extra help.

According to a post from The Ice Cream Shoppe's Facebook page, The staff deserves a big thank you for making 21 children in 8 family’s Christmas a bit brighter this year. As in years passed the staff and the shoppe donation our tips for the entire season to families in need at Christmas time. The shopping and wrapping unfortunately could not be the gathering and fanfare that it usually is, however it still got done. Thanks again to our outstanding staff. This is the Skowhegan shoppe, hopefully we can get the Farmington shop together and done this week.
