Maine lawmakers are going to debate whether to repeal the seat belt law. The public hearing is slated for tomorrow, February 27, 2015 at 9 am. So this means if what is talked about tomorrow comes to fruition, it will mean anyone over 18 will have the choice whether to buckle up or not.

Personally, I always wear a seat belt regardless of distance and for the most part always have. That being said, I am kind of in favor of the proposal because unlike smoking or texting and driving, your seat belt has no bearing on how you handle the car. You're protecting yourself against yourself.

I think a seat belt saves lives and statistics show it, but at the same time it should be a choice (a stupid choice not to wear it) not a law.
