2013 Met Gala: See Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry + More [Pics]
The 2013 Met Gala (aka the Met Ball) was last night (May 6) in NYC, and plenty of pop stars were in attendance, turning heads in an array of beautiful (and sadly, some questionable) gowns. The theme was 'Punk: Chaos to Couture,' and many A-listers interpreted it quite literally, like Miley Cyrus, while others, such as Madonna and Gwen Stefani, played with the concept. Standouts, for better or worse, included Beyonce (in Givenchy); Taylor Swift (in J. Mendel); and Katy Perry, who wore a crown with Dolce & Gabbana.
Beyonce's black and gold Givenchy was not her best look. The embroidery, the belt, the boots and the gloves were overkill.
Taylor Swift wore a militaristic black gown by J. Mendel. Her heavy, smoky eye makeup and nails were a little punky, right? They sure were. This is the edgiest we've seen T. Swizzle look on a red carpet in a while. Her take on "punk" was subtle and well done.
Miley Cyrus turned up in a fishnet-like Marc Jacobs gown with dangerous blond spikes in her hair; she could puncture the skin and cause a serious flesh wound with those things. This look was too literal of an interpretation of the theme. She wants to be punk and isn't masking her intentions with this see-through gown.
Katy Perry's Dolce & Gabbana gown was a bit costumey, since it looked like a painting reproduced on her chest. She must be the queen, since she was wearing a crown.
Gwen Stefani, who can legitimately be considered a punk rocker, got it right in a cutout Maison Martin Margiela gown. Her rocker hubby Gavin Rossdale wore plaid.
Jennifer Lopez was "spotted" in a Michael Kors gown that clung to every curve, which she paired with a punkish pompadour.
Madonna was clearly costumed. We loved her black bob.
Kylie Minogue wore a black and white, two-toned Moschino. It was Cinderella-like.
Here's Kimye, in all their expectant (and floral) glory.
Nicki Minaj was subdued in a navy blue Tommy Hilfiger gown with some strategically placed cutouts. Her spiral curls, on the other hand, were bold and out there!
Rita Ora rocked a white two-piece by Thakoon.
Alicia Keys wowed in a custom Jason Wu with a black leather top and maroon sequins in the skirt. The colors in the dress matched those her hair. Again, that's punk!
