A young man is currently in serious condition following an incident that happened on Wednesday night in the heart of downtown Augusta, Maine.
On Wednesday evening, we had multiple messages and phone calls come in to us asking if we knew what was happening on Water Street in Augusta.
At the time, we had not heard about anything happening though listeners of the station reported that there was a large emergency response and parts of the road was closed as police cars, fire trucks and multiple ambulances appeared to be taking over the area.
We can now confirm that incident was the result of a car vs pedestrian crash that happened just before 8pm on Wednesday evening according to a report from the Kennebec Journal.
The newspaper is reporting that just before 8pm on Wednesday, a 19-year-old man was walking across Water Street in the area of Laurel Street. While he was walking across the street, he was struck by a car.
Augusta emergency crews responded immediately to the scene where they found the 19-year-old with serious injuries in the street. The decision was made to contact LifeFlight and have the young man transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland via helicopter.
The driver of the vehicle was a 61-year-old woman from Jefferson, Maine. At this time, police are not releasing the identity of the driver of the car or the person who was struck.
As of Friday morning, the 19-year-old is still listed in serious condition at Maine Medical Center.
No word on any charges that may be pending against the driver.
