According to WGME 13, the family of a Maine man who was killed by an Amazon box truck on I-295 in 2020 is suing the massive corporation.

The crash happened back in July of 2020 when 41-year-old Joe Fisher had pulled over on Interstate 295 in Topsham to re-secure some gear on his truck. Fisher, along with his family, were headed north that day for a camping trip, WGME reports.

While he was out of the truck, he was struck and critically injured by an Amazon box truck being driven by 42-year-old Nasser Tibaijuka. Sadly, Fisher passed away 10 days later in the hospital from his injuries, the news station reports.

Tibaijuka was driving for a company that had been subcontracted by Amazon and was subsequently charged with manslaughter. Though Fisher's family has now turned their sights on Amazon, WGME reports.

Fisher's family claims that the company contracted by Amazon had a history of safety issues and is now suing the corporation. They claim in part that Tibaijuka was distracted by his cell phone at the time of the crash.

The family is seeking funeral expenses and other damages in the suit. Amazon has not been available for comment, according to WGME.
