A Taste of France is a Short Drive From Maine, Massachusetts

Sometimes, it feels like the United States is a country of Europhiles, doesn't it?  What would the signers of the Declaration of Independence say?  Probably nothing, but you can guarantee that they'd give you the stink eye.

In all seriousness, there is a good chance that you know at least a few people who are obsessed with the cultures of Great Britain, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Spain, or France.

Yes, France.  The food, the art, the romance!  For many, a trip to France would be the trip of a lifetime.

Of course, many of those who would love to visit France will never have the opportunity to do so.  Between the airfare, the hotels, and the restaurants, a trip to France is not cheap.

The good news is that you can get a taste of France right here in New England.

Travel + Leisure recently put out their list of 14 U. S. cities that offer a taste of Europe.

The article suggests that, those looking for a taste of France should pay a visit to Montpelier, Vermont.  The article suggests that the capital city of Vermont closely resembles the smaller villages of France.

The article says, in part:

with its farmers markets, quaint shops, green hills, and smattering of traditional European architecture. Great, locally sourced restaurants and a literary crowd only add to the French feel.

Vermont Vacation highlights the city's arts scene, explaining that Montpelier has been named one of the top 100 small arts towns in the United States.  The site also highlights the great restaurants and boutique shops in the city's downtown.

Several other New England cities were included in the article.  The article suggests that Newport, Rhode Island, bears a resemblance to the French Riviera.  Considering the area has been a summer escape for the affluent for over a century, that really makes sense.

Boston also made the list because parts of the city resemble the streets of some British cities.  The article explains that other parts of the city, like the North End, are like walking through the streets of Napoli.
