According to News Center Maine, LD 1070 has been proposed by six Maine Democrats.

Te goal of raising the taxes would be to "reduce the Number of domestic assaults and suicides".

If passed, the bill would increase the tax on malt liquor and hard cider by 43%, wine by nearly 67%, and some spirits by 21%

No word yet on when this would go into effect, assuming it passes.
